PLOS Biology joins MetaROR as a partner journal

A new step forward in making metaresearch publishing faster, more transparent

We’re delighted to announce that PLOS Biology has become the latest partner journal of MetaROR (MetaResearch Open Review), the community platform jointly led by RoRI and the Association for Interdisciplinary Meta-Research and Open Science (AIMOS).

Under MetaROR’s publish–review–curate model, researchers post their work on a preprint server, undergo open peer review via MetaROR, and receive a published editorial assessment. Authors can then choose to submit their reviewed work to a partner journal, sharing the review reports to streamline editorial decisions.

As part of the agreement, PLOS Biology will formally consider metaresearch articles peer-reviewed on MetaROR, helping to improve transparency and reduce duplication in peer review.

As a strong advocate for meta-research, we are pleased to become a partner journal of MetaROR, which will enable us to support this community while advancing Open Science practice,” said Nonia Pariente, Editor-in-Chief, PLOS Biology.

PLOS Biology is committed to using pre-existing reviewer reports wherever possible, and so partnering with MetaROR is a natural next step for us.”

PLOS Biology is among the first journals to partner with MetaROR,” said Ludo Waltman, Co-Editor-in-Chief of MetaROR and Co-Chair of RoRI. “We are grateful for PLOS’ confidence in MetaROR’s publish–review–curate model. We look forward to working with PLOS Biology to innovate scientific publishing practices.”

PLOS Biology joins an initial group of partner journals, including Collabra, Quantitative Science Studies, Science as Culture, and Scientometrics, with more to follow.
